Maria Filomena Mendes, licenciada em Economia e doutorada em Sociologia na especialidade de Demografia pela Universidade de Évora, na qual é Professora Associada no Departamento de Sociologia. É também Presidente da Associação Portuguesa de Demografia. Tem participado em diversos projectos de investigação na área da Demografia, incluindo no “The Human Fertility Database Project – Portugal” em cooperação com o Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) e o Vienna Institute of Demography (VID).

Maria Filomena Mendes is Associated Professor in the Sociology Department of the University of Évora and researcher at Interdisciplinary Centre of History, Cultures and Societies of the same University (CIDEHUS-UE). Has a PhD in Sociology and teaches Demography in the Sociology course and in the Statistical Modelation and Data Analysis Master. She has been coordinator of several research projects in the Sociology and Demography domains, under the evaluation and funding of FCT. She is the author of many publications in different scientific domains and currently President of the Portuguese Association of Demography board.
